House Water Filter System

house water filter system

The best house water filter system is the type that covers the whole house.  While you can get what is known as a “point of use” or “under the counter” water filter, these in all likelihood will end being less effective over time.  These systems need constant filter replacements or they become worthless.

In addition, they will only cover the particular faucet they connect to.  If you are an organized person and can regularly maintenance these types of filters, it might work for you.  However, the better way to go is to cover the entire home with a water filtering system that doesn’t need maintenance often and all your showers and faucets are covered.  You can forget it is even there.

So what are some of the advantages to whole house water systems exactly?

  1. A whole house water filtering system can purify water for the whole house and not just individual faucets or showerheads.  The picture of the long silver tank above is an example of this type system.
  2. This system is more expensive at first glance, but cheaper over time.  There are no filter replacements or media replacements except once every 10 years or so.  Moreover, your pipes and appliances will last longer since hard water deposits will be cut back or eliminated.  Take it from someone who has had most of his pipes and plumbing ripped out because it was so clogged with hard water mineral debris…  You do not want to go there… ever.
  3. Again having to perform no maintenance is a key.  People are busier than ever.  Adding another task to the list of things you have to do does not make sense.  Making life simpler does.  With a whole home water filter system that has the all-important back flush function, you don’t have to give your water filter a second thought.  You just set it up and forget about it until about 10 years later.  This is a much better system then having to think about replacing your filters every 3 to 6 months.  And this is especially true if you have more than one “point of use” system.  Seems like a big pain to use that kind of system.
  4. The right whole house water treatment system will be a “green” eco-friendly system for several reasons.  While these types of systems don’t actually soften water the way a traditional water softener does, they do condition it and remove the hard water issues you have without giving the slippery or slimly feel to the water.  And there is no salt involved.  Salt expelled from water softeners is destroying our environment enough these days.  In fact many counties and cities across the USA are getting wise to the damage that traditional water softeners are creating and outlawing them.  Therefore, you do not want to invest in that old technology because soon you might be asked to remove the system or be fined.
  5. With a good water filtering system, you will not need to buy plastic water bottles to get good tasting water.  You can use the good tasting water right out of your tap and put it in reusable stainless steel or aluminum bottles.  Thereby you will help remove the tremendous waste and problem that plastic bottles are creating with our environment.  Look up the Great Pacific Garbage Patch to learn more about this problem.
  6. And another advantage is you won’t be wasting water itself like a reverse osmosis water system does.  These systems waste a ton of water in ordering to filter out all the chemicals and minerals.  They are not efficient because of the water waste.  Note:  An RO system is often a needed choice for people with certain medical needs or sensitivities.  They literally strip all chemicals, minerals and anything else left in the water.  Removing all the minerals including calcium can change the taste of the water dramatically and is not always the answer.  Minerals are good for most of us but you need to evaluate your own level of need.

Therefore, we recommend you seek a water filter that treats the entire home because it covers the whole house, is cheaper in the end, needs no maintenance to speak of, and is better for the environment.

Last note: If you live in the Southern California and are interested in the best water filtering system available, before you call Aquasana, PUR filters, Brita, or someone else, we recommend you call or email Pure Elements, Inc.  Their system has the all-important back flush feature that most the other companies do not have. This feature is critical to the success and longevity of the system.
